Clubba – Find your kind

Everyone knows streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime. It seems that on these platforms there are endless possibilities for what to watch. One always has to decide and a lot of us end up searching for hours.

By creating our streaming platform Clubba we tried to reinvent the movie experience. It is supposed to be different and something new that does not exist yet. We managed to accomplish that by including various features.

We started the process of building our product by collecting ideas on what we want to do. From these ideas, we determined the theme of focus for our project. The four different themes we could choose from were discover, consume, manage and reflect. Our group decided on „discover“. The focus defined the path and core functions of our platform. While looking at the theme we noticed the following problems: Often the movies are not curated well and there are too many decisions to be made. That way the user is overwhelmed and disorientated. Instead of focusing on interests or moods the search options seem endless.


In order to come up with possible solutions we used methods like crazy 8, idea tower as well as user journeys and user flows. In addition to that we also took inspiration from already existing functions from other applications. That way we were able to map out our goals.

By prototyping, we created our final concept of the platform as well as the name „Clubba“. Our main inspiration is the idea of analog book or movie clubs. With this concept in hand, we began the design process. Starting with first drafts and proposals lead us to our style guide and the final prototype. To sum up our product we created a video.

Clubba contains four core functions: customize, discover, connect and watch.

You can show others what you are interested in by joining clubs and that way adding stickers to your avatar. Each club revolves around a different movie genre like romance, sport or horror. Changing the look of the avatar also allows one to express him-/herself and adds to personalizing the platform.

You have the chance to join a personal movie community online, where you can find clubs that represent your fields of interest with complementary communities. To avoid spending hours searching every club presents one movie each week. That way you don’t need to decide which movie to watch and might discover new movies. Each movie is available for one week until the next one airs.

Because we love to interact with people with the same passion as we do, one can chat with others and find people with similar interests. Using the chat function within each club, the user can drag a post onto the area and tell others what he/she is thinking.

Chatting in the club isn’t the only way to exchange your thoughts with other movie lovers. You can also show them how you feel while watching. In order to react one is able to use the Clubba app. That way it is more comfortable to watch and react.
