Craigslist Redesign

The Task
In this course we received the task to redesign the Craigslist website to make it look more visually appealing and organized.
This website should also be designed specifically to the needs of a user, in our case it’s Jan, a young Philosophy student who just recently moved to Berlin and is looking for a cheap bed in the category furnitures.

Process
We had to take the persona’s personallity into account, for example he doesn’t like to register anywhere and give away his data. Also, we should showcase the user’s whole experience from the first view of the landing page up until the purchase of the furniture.

So our first step was to click through the original website to find out where the painpoints were and which changes we could apply so Jan would be amazed and have fun when using Craigslist for the first time.

We drew a screen flow and created a first low-fi prototype of our ideas.

We decided for a landing page with specific icons for all the categories, at a later point we also added a hero image of a famous Berlin landmark. This picture would change depending on the city you’re in. Several filter options allow the user to find his desired furniture faster.

The colors were kept simple and we just used petrol as a strong contrast color for the header. This color is modern, elegant and calming.

End result

With guidance of our instructor we managed to create a website that reflects the modern Zeitgeist and enables a better overall experience for the user.
