The project presents pictograms of different sections of the Bauhaus Hardware Store.
The selected sections include: Tools, Garden, Lights, Electricity, Household, Living Space, Kitchen, Key Service, Bike & Car, and Christmas Decoration. Since hardware stores are often crowded with products, the pictograms are intentionally designed to be subtle and visually unobtrusive, yet bold and easily recognizable.
Negative Space Pictograms
Each pictogram is designed using a combination of stroked and filled objects, arranged in a vertical layout to reduce visual clutter.
Black and White Pictograms
Where applicable, fine separations are incorporated within shapes to create a lighter, more balanced appearance, enhancing clear navigation.
Pictograms in Color
The pictograms can also be used in color. The chosen colors are primarily assigned based on each section’s function, visually reinforcing the purpose of each category and making the pictograms more intuitive and easier to recognize. For example, the Electricity section is represented in yellow. To maintain a light and visually appealing design, soft colors highlight the pictograms without overwhelming them.
Pictograms in Use
An applied example of how pictograms can be used in a real world setting. Suspended from the ceiling, they are visible above the products, helping with orientation, navigation, and saving search time.
