The new Apple Music

In the course “Digital Products”, we imagined what the ultimate music app could look like. We decided to give Apple Music a new identity. The course was split into three projects that lead to our final result. First we decided on a design and structure, then developed a new feature and imagined in the third part what could be added with modern technologies in three years time.

Project 1

After analyzing the current Apple Music, comparing it to similar apps and creating a moodboard, we designed our first drafts. The results of the first project had to showcase three completely different directions the app could be designed in.

Project 2 and Project 3

Project 2 was about creating a new feature for the app. We settled on the colorful, bold design from project 1. It had a completely different look than other music apps which was exciting and we wanted to explore this new approach more in depth.
We chose a new feature for the app, that allows the user to determine the moods of playlists, artists and songs by looking at shapes that represent different moods, which can be found all over the app.

In addition to that, the feature creates a personal mood picture for every user. It acts as a kind of mood tracker that shows what moods you listen to in a week, allows you to enter mood playlists and can be shared with your friends.

In the 3rd project, the app should be expanded by a feature that is using technologies of the future. We decided to include a tracker that scans moods and behavior patterns through connections to other apps, GPS and face tracking. In doing so, it recognizes the needs of the user and if they have friends nearby, makes suitable suggestions for the whole group as well as the individual users.

Our version of Apple Music enables users to share and experience music with their friends in a fun, easy, colorful and personal way.
