In this context each student designs a product in one category. Any product can be designed as long it is sustainable and reasonable!
Sphire is a fire prevention tool designed to be accessible and easy to put in different scenarios. Its aim is to help farmer against wildfires.
Inspired by fire extinguisher balls, which are styrofoam and PVC product with inside an extinguisher powder, that explode when in contact with fire. This is thanks to a fuze and explosive powder.
The idea behind was to take inspiration from this products and understand how to make them less impacting enviromentally and more usable in term of where and how you place them.
Sphire, thanks to is cork casing, doesn’t leave any nonbiodegradable residue. In addition cork is an effective fire retardant. The extinguisher powder is mono ammonium phosphate, which instead is a great fertilizer. Coming back to the cork casing, cork has also the great property to be mold. This characteristic made possible to play with the shape of Sphire and adding functionalities to it. So we molded onto Sphire some indentations to allow the user to use accessories to place Sphire in different parts of the land. For instance, the farmer could use whatever stick, insert it in Sphire, so that he could place it in the soil. Or the indentations could help with wrapping a rope around it to place it on a tree. All of this “accessories” could be bought with Sphire, but mainly are meant to be so simple that the final user can use whatever he has at home or at his farm.
