In Germany alone, about 78.000 women who menstruate are homeless. As this topic is not thoroughly discussed in politics, there are multiple problems that arise with this:

1. this topic is still regarded as shameful, which makes the problems harder to tackle
2. the homeless lack the financial means for buying menstrual products such as tampons
3. Some homeless women have a lack of education about self-care, and using menstrual products
4. This results in a higher risk of infections

our solution

with this project, we wanted to provide an option for homeless people to get a better access for tampons, while making it available for other women as well.

layout

The layout of the box is designed with as little elements as possible, to provide a clear understanding. Next to the name we placed a short info-text about the topic, as well as a QR-Code which leads you to a donation site.

For the usage, there are three simple steps which are highlighted with icons and a thin line. Simply put in a coin, turn the knob, and take your tampon package.

buildup

We focused on making a two-part case which can be easily assembled with a lip and groove. The whole structure is made out of metal sheets which can be pressed. The inner mechanism is already existing in candy machines, which we slightly altered to make them fit into our product category.

features

the coins and money are collected in a container in the lower left part of the box, which then can be slid off.

A lid can be opened on the top to refill the box. It is locked to ensure protection against vandalism.

the packaging

Additional to the box we designed a packaging, which can hold four tampons each. It is cylinder-shaped, with four cuts which keeps the tampons more secure inside. Furthermore, we included three guides on the inside, to educate the women about the usage.

the process

We figured out a process as well, to get a better overall understanding of the procedure. We imagine the box to finance itself with the help of donations, but also with the margin of the tampon packagings.

the campaign

In order to finalize our project, we designed posters in order to inform the viewer about the topic, as well as raising awareness in the society.
