In the Photography course, we aimed to capture the essence of long-distance relationships through images. The focus is on the clash of cultures, the challenges of distance, the loneliness of being apart, and the precious moments of togetherness. The photographs explore the emotional spectrum of a long-distance relationship – from longing and waiting to the joy of reunion.

When you are far apart in a relationship, letters still hold a special meaning—even in our modern age of online calls. There is something uniquely exciting about finding a letter slipped under the door. That’s why I decided to showcase excerpts from the letters here, along with the letter under the door.

The time difference is also a major challenge—when the sun rises for one person, it sets for the other. The man in the lower image somehow reminded me of the emptiness that surrounds you when you’re apart, and at the same time, the absurdity of trying to hold on to just one person in this vast world.

Ximen Station 6 in Taipei – that’s where I saw and approached Karin for the first time. I told her that I was a photographer, that I found her very beautiful, and asked if she would be interested in a small, spontaneous photo shoot. On the left is an image from that series, and on the right is a picture of the subway station.
