Not So Far From Home is a photography series about international students and the temporary homes they create while studying abroad. I wanted to capture the bedrooms they live in and the small ways they make these spaces feel like home, whether it’s through decorations, photos, keepsakes, or everyday objects that remind them of where they came from.
Alongside the rooms, I photographed the students themselves doing things they enjoy or regularly did back home, showing how they continue those routines in a new country. These simple moments highlight that although they have moved far away, they still carry parts of home with them through their hobbies, habits, and personal spaces.
This project explores the idea that home isn’t just a place—it’s something we create. Even in a temporary room on the other side of the world, familiar routines and meaningful objects can make a space feel not so far from home.
