The topic of the Anthropocene can be presented in many different ways. Each way focuses on a different facet of this major topic.
In this project, the topic of the Anthropocene is presented in a very global context and on different personal levels. Through inter-views with people who have lived outside of Germany for a while, different countries around the world are presented. The interviewees talk about their history, where they live, why they emigrated or came here to Germany. Furthermore, they can draw a very nice comparison between the two countries. Both in terms of the population, the landscape and the environment as a whole. How is nature treated there? Do the people there have a major influence on their environment? What is being done there for sustainability? In addition, the person‘s personal relationship to the topic of the anthropocene becomes important. Everyone has a different focus, attaches great importance to something else or has a particular pain point somewhere.
Name
The magazine is called „Roots“ because it represents both the roots of the people in terms of their family, their origins and their stories, but also the roots of the country from which the people featured come. As the magazine focuses on both, the name is very obvious.
Cover
The cover of the magazine is intended to visually support the name „Roots“. However, the fo-cus should not be on the realistic roots, but merely an unobtrusive design element.
Inlays
We have included inlays in our magazine as chapter dividers and to mark the fact that another person is now being introduced. Only the name and country of origin appear here. It is discreet and yet adds something exciting.
Cutouts
Another element are our two cutouts. These are cut-out windows with blue transparent foil. It lets a picture flash through but doesn‘t show too much. A connecting element to the next belonging double page.
