Music visualisation in the Audiovisual Design course serves as a practical project in which a range of skills are brought together and expanded to include the parameters of time and space. The aim is to develop the ability
to translate auditory stimuli into visual form and to communicate them. To this end, a behaviour- and principle-based drawing system constituting a visual language for dynamic media and interfaces is to be developed.
Threat and fear – the apocalypse, that is what we associated with the song we chose. We conveyed these tense emotions visually using the sharp edges of squares and a strong black-and-white contrast topped with different shades of the alarming color red. To reflect the richness and simultaneity of the instruments in our song, we established a layering system, which we made visible through movement behaviours of expansion and contraction as well as by using masks or inversions. Using these design principles we were able to convey our message without becoming too figurative.
